Stucco Verification Checklist

Essential Checklist+

Complete these critical checks before approving the work or proceeding to the next construction stage.

βœ“12 Inspection Points
βœ“4 Verification Categories
βœ“Measurement & Takeoff+
  • Every wall section's width and height were measured on site, not estimated from a floor plan alone.
  • Window and door counts and typical sizes were recorded for each wall section that has openings, not assumed uniform across the whole house.
  • Outside corner count matches the building's actual footprint, including any bump-outs, bay windows, or wing additions.
  • Overall wall height (corner bead sizing only) reflects the tallest point a corner run must cover, e.g. full two-story height where applicable.
βœ“Substrate & System Selection+
  • Substrate type (Frame + Lath vs. Direct-to-Masonry) matches the actual wall construction β€” this changes whether lath, paper, fasteners, and weep screed are needed at all.
  • Finish coat type (cementitious or acrylic) and, if acrylic, the texture grade, match the actual product ordered β€” texture alone can roughly double or triple pail count for the same area.
βœ“Lath, Paper & Accessories+
  • Lath is self-furring (or furred) and meets a minimum weight/gauge standard appropriate for the span β€” confirmed against the local code and product spec, not assumed from this calculator's sheet count alone.
  • 2 layers of Grade D (or equivalent) building paper are planned behind the lath over wood-based sheathing, correctly lapped at seams.
  • A weep screed is planned at the base of every frame+lath wall for drainage β€” never omitted, and never substituted on a masonry/concrete wall where it isn't needed.
  • Corner bead is planned at every outside corner for a straight, impact-resistant edge; casing bead is planned around every window and door opening.
βœ“Installation & Final Check+
  • Scratch coat is applied with enough pressure to fully encase the lath and is scored/raked before it sets, per standard plastering practice.
  • Adequate cure/cure-water time was scheduled between scratch, brown, and finish coats β€” stucco is a multi-day process, not a single-visit install.

  • Overall wall height (corner bead sizing only) reflects the tallest point a corner run must cover, e.g. full two-story height where applicable.
  • Gable end walls were added as their own row with a reasonable average height, or their triangular area was measured separately.
βœ“Substrate & System Selection+
  • Substrate type (Frame + Lath vs. Direct-to-Masonry) matches the actual wall construction β€” this changes whether lath, paper, fasteners, and weep screed are needed at all.
  • Framing spacing (if Frame + Lath) matches the actual stud/joist layout, not just this calculator's default.
  • Finish coat type (cementitious or acrylic) and, if acrylic, the texture grade, match the actual product ordered β€” texture alone can roughly double or triple pail count for the same area.
  • Waste allowance (5-15%) matches the job's actual complexity β€” more openings and cuts need a higher allowance.
  • Outside temperature and weather forecast were checked against the product's minimum/maximum application temperature range before scheduling each coat.
βœ“Lath, Paper & Accessories+
  • Lath is self-furring (or furred) and meets a minimum weight/gauge standard appropriate for the span β€” confirmed against the local code and product spec, not assumed from this calculator's sheet count alone.

  • Corner bead is planned at every outside corner for a straight, impact-resistant edge; casing bead is planned around every window and door opening.
  • Control joint locations were confirmed against an engineered layout or local best practice, not relied on from this calculator's planning-level estimate alone.
βœ“Installation & Final Check+
  • Scratch coat is applied with enough pressure to fully encase the lath and is scored/raked before it sets, per standard plastering practice.
  • Adequate cure/cure-water time was scheduled between scratch, brown, and finish coats β€” stucco is a multi-day process, not a single-visit install.
  • Bag, lath, paper, accessory, and fastener quantities including the waste allowance β€” not the raw calculated totals β€” were used for the material order.
  • Weather forecast was checked before each coat β€” stucco should not be applied in freezing temperatures or immediately before heavy rain.
  • Final finish coat texture and color were sampled and approved before coating the full wall area.
