This Aggregate Calculator helps estimate coarse aggregate quantity, loose aggregate volume, and approximate aggregate weight for concrete and PCC works based on concrete volume, aggregate size, mix ratio, dry volume factor, bulk density, and wastage allowance.

It is useful for site engineers, contractors, estimators, masons, and homeowners who need a quick practical estimate before ordering 10mm, 20mm, or 40mm aggregate. The Aggregate Size selector applies practical default bulk densities while still allowing manual adjustment for local material conditions.

The calculator provides both volume and approximate weight because aggregate suppliers may quote material in cubic meters, cubic feet, truckloads, kilograms, or tons depending on local supply practice.

Use it during preliminary material planning, supplier quotation comparison, BOQ preparation, and construction quantity estimation for concrete, PCC, and related aggregate works.

Aggregate quantity calculation starts with the required wet concrete volume. The calculator converts wet volume into dry material volume, applies the selected mix ratio, calculates the aggregate share, and converts loose aggregate volume into approximate weight using bulk density.

Step 1 - Enter required concrete volume

Concrete volume is the finished wet concrete volume required for slabs, beams, columns, PCC, foundations, or other construction works. You can enter the value in m³, cubic feet, cubic yards, or liters.

Wet Volume = Required Concrete Volume

Step 2 - Convert wet volume to dry volume

Dry volume factor accounts for voids between aggregate particles, sand bulking, compaction, and practical site handling losses. For concrete and PCC estimation, a dry volume factor of 1.54 is commonly used.

Dry Volume = Wet Volume × Dry Volume Factor

Step 3 - Calculate aggregate share from mix ratio

The aggregate ratio part is divided by the total mix ratio parts to calculate the loose aggregate volume required for the selected concrete mix.

For a 1:2:4 concrete mix ratio:

Total Parts = 1 + 2 + 4 = 7

Aggregate Share = 4 / 7

Aggregate Volume = Aggregate Share × Dry Volume

Step 4 - Convert aggregate volume to approximate weight

Bulk density converts loose aggregate volume into approximate aggregate weight. The default density changes automatically when you select 10mm, 20mm, or 40mm aggregate, and it can be adjusted for local material conditions.

Aggregate Weight = Aggregate Volume × Bulk Density

Step 5 - Apply wastage allowance

Wastage allowance accounts for practical site losses during transport, unloading, storage, handling, and placement.

Final Quantity = Base Quantity × (1 + Wastage %)

Suppose you need to calculate aggregate quantity for 1 m³ of concrete using a 1:2:4 mix ratio, aggregate ratio part 4,1.54 dry volume factor, 1550 kg/m³ bulk density, and 5% wastage allowance.

Step 1 - Identify wet concrete volume

The required finished concrete volume is 1 m³.

Wet Volume = 1 m³

Step 2 - Convert wet volume to dry volume

For concrete, a dry volume factor of 1.54 is commonly used for nominal aggregate quantity estimation.

Dry Volume = 1 × 1.54 = 1.54 m³

Step 3 - Calculate total mix parts

For a 1:2:4 concrete mix, the total parts are the sum of cement, sand, and aggregate.

Total Parts = 1 + 2 + 4 = 7

Step 4 - Calculate loose aggregate volume

Aggregate volume is calculated by multiplying dry volume by the aggregate share in the mix ratio.

Aggregate Volume = 4 / 7 × 1.54 = 0.88 m³

Step 5 - Convert aggregate volume to aggregate weight

Using a bulk density of 1550 kg/m³, the loose aggregate volume is converted into approximate aggregate weight.

Aggregate Weight = 0.88 × 1550 = 1364 kg

Step 6 - Add wastage allowance

A 5% wastage allowance is added for practical site handling, unloading, storage, and placement losses.

Final Aggregate Volume = 0.88 × 1.05 = 0.924 m³

Final Aggregate Weight = 1364 × 1.05 = 1432.2 kg

Final Aggregate Weight = 1.432 tons

Ordering suggestion: Round up based on supplier unit. In this example, plan around 1.0 m³ or 1.5 tons of aggregate.

The following table shows commonly used coarse aggregate sizes, approximate loose bulk densities, typical construction applications, and nominal mix ratios used for concrete and PCC estimation.

Aggregate SizeTypical Bulk DensityCommon ApplicationsTypical Concrete Ratio

Note: Actual aggregate density may vary depending on stone type, grading, moisture content, compaction condition, and local material source.

  • Use it when you know the concrete volume and need coarse aggregate quantity quickly.
  • Use it to compare 10mm, 20mm, and 40mm aggregate size assumptions.
  • Use it before requesting supplier quotations in m³, cft, or tons.
  • Use it for preliminary material budgeting for concrete and PCC work.
  • This is a nominal quantity estimator, not a laboratory concrete mix design.
  • Actual aggregate quantity can vary due to grading, moisture, compaction, voids, and batching accuracy.
  • Bulk density varies by stone type, shape, source, and moisture condition.
  • The calculator does not verify aggregate grading, strength, flakiness, elongation, or project specification compliance.
  • Structural concrete should follow approved drawings, mix design, and engineer guidance.
