Vinyl Siding Verification Checklist

Essential Checklist+β
Complete these critical checks before approving the work or proceeding to the next construction stage.
β13 Inspection Points
β4 Verification Categories
βMeasurement & Takeoff+-
- Every wall section's width and height were measured on site, not estimated from a floor plan alone.
- Window and door counts and typical sizes were recorded for each wall section that has openings, not assumed uniform across the whole house.
- Any individual window or door over 50 sq ft (a garage door, a sliding-glass-door wall) was identified β this calculator automatically deducts 75% of that opening's own area, rather than treating it the same as a normal window or door. Several ordinary openings on one wall do NOT trigger this, even if their combined area is large.
- Outside and inside corner counts match the building's actual footprint, including any bump-outs, bay windows, or wing additions.
- Overall wall height used for corner posts reflects the tallest point corner posts must run (e.g. full two-story height where applicable), not just one story.
βPanel Profile & Material Selection+-
- Panel profile selected matches the actual product ordered (Double 4", Double 4.5", Double 5", Single 8", or Custom) β not assumed from a generic default.
- If using Custom Profile, panel length and exposure were taken directly from the supplier's product packaging or spec sheet, not estimated.
- Starter strip, J-channel, corner post, and F-channel stock lengths were confirmed against the actual supplier SKU, since this calculator's 12.5 ft assumption may not match every manufacturer.
βAccessories & Trim+-
- Starter strip is planned around the full base perimeter of every wall section being sided, level and straight before the first course goes up.
- J-channel is planned around every window and door opening (3-sided for doors, 4-sided for windows), plus any gable rake or other termination not covered by F-channel.
- Outside and inside corner posts are planned as continuous full-height runs at every real corner, spliced with the correct overlap where more than one stock piece is needed per corner.
βInstallation & Final Check+-
- Panels are installed with correct nailing (centered in the nailing slot, not driven tight) to allow for thermal expansion and contraction.
- Panel and accessory quantities including the waste allowance β not the raw calculated totals β were used for the material order.

- Overall wall height used for corner posts reflects the tallest point corner posts must run (e.g. full two-story height where applicable), not just one story.
- Gable end walls were added as their own row with a reasonable average height, or their triangular area was measured and compared separately.
βPanel Profile & Material Selection+-
- Panel profile selected matches the actual product ordered (Double 4", Double 4.5", Double 5", Single 8", or Custom) β not assumed from a generic default.
- If using Custom Profile, panel length and exposure were taken directly from the supplier's product packaging or spec sheet, not estimated.
- Siding color/lot was confirmed consistent across all ordered cartons to avoid visible batch variation on large elevations.
- Starter strip, J-channel, corner post, and F-channel stock lengths were confirmed against the actual supplier SKU, since this calculator's 12.5 ft assumption may not match every manufacturer.
- Waste allowance (5-15%) matches the job's actual complexity β more openings, cuts, and gables need a higher allowance.
βAccessories & Trim+-
- Starter strip is planned around the full base perimeter of every wall section being sided, level and straight before the first course goes up.
- F-channel/soffit transition trim is included only where the top of the wall actually terminates under a soffit/fascia using that detail β not assumed for every elevation.
- Utility/undersill trim or other specialty terminations not covered by this calculator (e.g. against existing trim boards, decks, or dormers) were measured and ordered separately.
βInstallation & Final Check+-
- Panels are installed with correct nailing (centered in the nailing slot, not driven tight) to allow for thermal expansion and contraction.
- Panel and accessory quantities including the waste allowance β not the raw calculated totals β were used for the material order.
- Housewrap/weather-resistant barrier condition was confirmed intact and properly lapped before siding installation began.
- Course lines were checked level and consistent across adjacent wall elevations with a level or story pole before continuing past the first few courses, not assumed self-correcting further up the wall.
- Final elevation was checked for level courses, consistent reveal, and properly seated corner posts and J-channel before calling the job complete.
