Radiant Floor Heating Verification Checklist
π Last updated: September 14, 2026
Essential Checklist+β
Complete these critical checks before approving the work or proceeding to the next construction stage.
β10 Inspection Points
β4 Verification Categories
βInputs & Sizing Method+-
- Room/zone area accurately measured, not guessed
- Excluded Area entered for cabinets, tubs, islands, and other fixed fixtures where tubing can't be laid, not left at 0 by default
- Correct IECC climate zone selected for the property's actual location
- Floor Covering selection matches the actual planned finish, not a placeholder
- Manifold Distance measured (or reasonably estimated) for this specific room/zone, not left at the default
βFloor Covering & Preliminary Output Screening+-
- Preliminary output screening result reviewed and understood as a rough screen, not a final design determination
βTubing Layout & Loop Design+-
- Required Loops figure matches the manifold's actual number of available loop ports
βInstallation & Commissioning+-
- Tubing pressure-tested and confirmed leak-free before pouring slab, installing subfloor, or closing up the assembly
- System operating water temperature confirmed against a full design procedure for the actual assembly and load, not a fixed "typical" range and not a boiler's higher baseboard/radiator temperature
- Licensed HVAC/hydronic heating contractor sign-off obtained before relying on this as a final design
Full QC Checklist+β
Verify inputs/sizing method, floor covering and preliminary output screening, tubing layout and loop design, and installation/commissioning.

βInputs & Sizing Method+-
- Room/zone area accurately measured, not guessed
- Excluded Area entered for cabinets, tubs, islands, and other fixed fixtures where tubing can't be laid, not left at 0 by default
- Correct IECC climate zone selected for the property's actual location
- Insulation quality assessed honestly, not defaulted to Average without checking
- Floor Covering selection matches the actual planned finish, not a placeholder
- Tube Diameter matches the actual PEX/tubing product being purchased, not just a default
- Manifold Distance measured (or reasonably estimated) for this specific room/zone, not left at the default
βFloor Covering & Preliminary Output Screening+-
- Preliminary output screening result reviewed and understood as a rough screen, not a final design determination
- A full design check (or licensed contractor review) obtained before finalizing, regardless of which way the preliminary screening result leans
- If the screening flags likely insufficient: a specific remedy chosen (lower-resistance covering, tighter spacing within a full design check, supplemental heat source, or accept a lower indoor design temperature) rather than ignored
- Actual floor covering's manufacturer thermal resistance/R-value checked against the general category selected here
- Rooms with unusually large window/glass area (sunrooms, great rooms) re-checked against a more detailed load calculation before trusting a borderline preliminary screening result
βTubing Layout & Loop Design+-
- Required Loops figure matches the manifold's actual number of available loop ports
- Individual loop lengths kept within roughly 10% of each other where practical, for easier flow balancing
- Ordering Length (not Active Tubing Length) used when purchasing material, and Manifold Distance entered accurately for each zone
- Tubing layout plan avoids fixed obstructions (cabinets, permanent fixtures, structural elements) before installation begins
βInstallation & Commissioning+-
- Tubing pressure-tested and confirmed leak-free before pouring slab, installing subfloor, or closing up the assembly
- System operating water temperature confirmed against a full design procedure for the actual assembly and load, not a fixed "typical" range and not a boiler's higher baseboard/radiator temperature
- A mixing valve (or dedicated low-temperature boiler/heat source) installed to bring shared-system water temperature down into the radiant-safe range
- Each loop's flow balanced at the manifold using flow meters/balancing valves before considering the zone commissioned
- Floor surface temperature checked after startup and confirmed not to routinely exceed 85Β°F
- Licensed HVAC/hydronic heating contractor sign-off obtained before relying on this as a final design
- Understood this is a square-footage planning estimate, not an ACCA Manual J load calculation or full hydronic engineering design
