False Ceiling Cost Calculator (Boards, Frame, Hangers & Cost)

Estimate false ceiling boards, frame material, screws, and cost.

Inputs

Section 1: Ceiling Area

ℹ️Known-area mode estimates boards, screws, and cost. Use room dimensions when frame and hanger layout is needed.

Multiple Different-Sized Rooms?

ℹ️Set to more than 1 if several identical rooms share this same size.

Section 2: Board Details

ℹ️Grid systems (tile ceilings) rest boards in a suspended grid; channel systems screw boards to a channel frame. Selecting a preset sets this automatically.

ℹ️Use 5-10% for simple rooms and 10-15% for more cutouts or complex ceiling layouts.

Section 3: Frame & Fasteners

ℹ️Spacing is treated as the maximum spacing between main channel lines.

ℹ️Hangers include endpoint allowance on each main line.

ℹ️Grid/tile systems don't need this — tiles rest in the grid rather than being screwed.

Section 4: Cost

Enable Cost Estimation?

Recommended false ceiling boards: 8 boards

Ceiling area: 20.00 m² with 95.00 m total frame length (channel system).

Board Summary

Total Ceiling Area: 20.00 m²

Board Area: 2.88 m²

Boards Before Wastage: 6.94

Wastage Added: 10%

Final Boards: 8 boards

Frame & Fasteners

Main Channel Length: 25.00 m

Furring Channel Length: 52.00 m

Perimeter Channel: 18.00 m

Total Frame Length: 95.00 m

Hangers: 30 pcs

Screws: 280 pcs

Quick Insight

Buy at least 8 boards including 10% wastage. Plan about 95.00 m of frame material.

Calculated from room dimensions, board size, wastage, channel spacing, endpoint hanger allowance, and screw allowance.

False ceiling cost estimate

This page keeps total cost as the headline number — the same 20 m² room needs 8 boards, which at a sample rate of 450 per board comes to 3,600 in board cost, plus 5,000 in labor (20 m² x 250 per m²), before frame cost is added.

Cost estimation runs alongside the same board and frame math used on every other page — enter your own board cost, frame rate, and labor rate to replace these sample figures with real local pricing.

How the false ceiling calculation works

Channel systems (gypsum board, PVC panel) screw boards to a main channel and furring channel frame, with a perimeter channel at the wall line.

Step 1 - Calculate ceiling area

Ceiling Area = Room Length x Room Width x Number of Rooms, or entered known ceiling area

Multiple Rooms = Sum of every room's area above, combined into one total

Switching on Multiple Different-Sized Rooms lets you add several rooms of different sizes in one run — each keeps its own dimensions, and the calculator adds every room together automatically.

Step 2 - Calculate boards/tiles required

Board Area = Board Length x Board Width

Final Boards = ceil((Ceiling Area / Board Area) x (1 + Wastage / 100))

The same math applies whether you're ordering gypsum boards or grid tiles — only the board/tile dimensions change.

Step 3 - Estimate frame material

Main Channel Lines = ceil(Room Width / Main Channel Spacing) + 1

Main Channel Length = Number of Lines x Room Length

Furring Channel Lines = ceil(Room Length / Furring Channel Spacing) + 1

Furring Channel Length = Number of Lines x Room Width

Total Frame = Main Channel + Furring Channel + Perimeter Channel

Furring channels clip perpendicular to the main channel, giving boards a fixing surface at regular intervals.

Step 4 - Estimate hangers, screws, and cost

Hangers = Main Channel Lines x (ceil(Room Length / Hanger Spacing) + 1)

Screws = Final Boards x Screws per Board

Total Cost = Board Cost + Frame Cost + Labor Cost

Frame quantities are practical estimates. Final layout should follow site drawings, manufacturer recommendations, and ceiling load requirements.

Real-World False Ceiling Calculation Example

This example uses the active calculator mode, board type, and inputs above and follows the same steps from the formula section.

Therefore, for this 20 m² ceiling you need 8 boards, about 95 m of frame material, and 30 hangers, plus 280 screws.

FAQ

Board cost (per board × final board count), frame material cost (per meter × total frame length), and labor cost (per m² × ceiling area) — combined into one total.
Contractor quotes typically bundle detailing (cove lighting, access panels, jointing/POP finishing) and site-specific labor conditions this calculator doesn't include — treat this as a materials-and-labor baseline, not a final quote.
