β31 Inspection Points
β6 Verification Categories
βSoil Assessment & Excavation+-
- Founding level confirmed by geotechnical report or structural engineer's instruction
- Safe bearing capacity (SBC) of soil confirmed β matches design assumption
- Excavation pit dimensions confirmed β larger than footing to allow formwork space
- Founding level clean β loose soil, disturbed material, and water removed
- Soil at founding level undisturbed β no over-excavation
- Water table level checked β dewatering in place if water level is above founding level
- Founding level probed for soft spots β any weak zones reported to structural engineer
βPCC (Blinding Layer)+-
- PCC blinding layer provided β minimum 75mm thick on founding level
βVolume & Material Estimation+-
- Footing volume calculated correctly β length Γ width Γ depth for rectangular footings
- Dry volume factor of 1.54 applied to wet volume for material calculation
- Concrete grade confirmed β M20 minimum for RCC footings in moderate exposure
- Wastage of 3β5% added to footing concrete volume before ordering
βReinforcement+-
- Footing bar size and spacing confirmed from structural drawing
- Bottom cover confirmed β minimum 50mm for footings in contact with ground
- Column starter bars positioned exactly on column grid β plumb and at correct projection length
- Starter bar template used and confirmed against structural drawing before concrete pour
- Top reinforcement provided if specified β required for large footings or eccentric loads
- Bottom bars extend to within 50mm of footing edges β not cut short at column face
- Reinforcement mat stable and level on cover blocks β not resting on excavation sides
βConcrete Placement & Compaction+-
- Formwork confirmed in place before pour β plumb, level, and adequately braced
- Dewatering pump running continuously throughout pour if water table is high
- Vibrator used at 400β500mm centres β compact every layer of footing concrete
- Footing top surface finished to correct level β confirmed with level instrument
- No water added to concrete at placement point β workability from admixture only
- Entire footing poured in one continuous session β no cold joints
βCuring & Backfilling+-
- Exposed footing surfaces cured for minimum 7 days β top surface and sides
- Footing formwork stripped after minimum 24 hours β sides inspected before backfilling
- Starter bar positions and plumb re-checked after striking formwork
- Backfill material is approved β granular fill or specified material, free from organic matter
- Backfill compacted in 150mm layers β plate compactor or manual rammer used
- Backfilling not started until footing concrete has achieved minimum 70% strength β typically 7 days
