Sand Estimation & Procurement Verification Checklist
π Last updated: June 28, 2026
Essential Checklist+β
Complete these critical checks before approving the work or proceeding to the next construction stage.
β13 Inspection Points
β3 Verification Categories
βVolume Estimation & Formula+-
- Sand application confirmed β concrete, masonry mortar, plaster, or bedding
- Sand volume calculated using mix ratio applied to dry volume
- Bulking factor applied if sand is measured by volume in damp condition
- Correct bulk density used for volume-to-weight conversion β 1450β1650 kg/mΒ³ for river sand
- Wastage of 5β10% added to calculated sand volume before ordering
βSand Quality & Testing+-
- Sand zone confirmed per IS 383 β Zone II or III for concrete, Zone I or II for plaster
- Silt content tested and confirmed below 8% β field jar test performed
- Sand free from organic matter β colour test or smell test performed
- Sand clean and free from clay lumps, mica flakes, and shell fragments
- Confirm sand is river or quarry sand β not sea sand
- Sand moisture content estimated β adjust water content in mix if sand is wet
βDelivery & Storage+-
- Sand quantity verified at delivery β weigh bridge slip or measured volume checked
- Sand stockpiled on hard, clean surface β not directly on contaminated ground
Full QC Checklist+β
Verification checklist for sand quantity estimation and procurement β covering volume calculation, grade selection, quality testing, bulking correction, delivery verification, and storage. Use the Essential Checklist for critical checks before ordering and accepting sand; expand to Full QC Checklist for complete material quality control.

- Sand quantities calculated separately for each application β concrete and mortar not combined
- Final sand volume expressed in mΒ³ β converted to loads or tonnes for supplier

- Sand zone confirmed per IS 383 β Zone II or III for concrete, Zone I or II for plaster
- Silt content tested and confirmed below 8% β field jar test performed

- Confirm sand is river or quarry sand β not sea sand
- Sand moisture content estimated β adjust water content in mix if sand is wet
- Sand grading confirmed by sieve analysis if structural concrete is specified
- Visual inspection of delivered sand β colour and particle characteristics consistent
βDelivery & Storage+-
- Sand quantity verified at delivery β weigh bridge slip or measured volume checked
- Sand stockpiled on hard, clean surface β not directly on contaminated ground
- Sand stockpile covered in monsoon β prevents excessive wetting and silt contamination
- Different sand grades stockpiled separately β concrete sand not mixed with plaster sand
- Sand taken from stockpile starting from the base β not always from the top
