Roofing Sheet Estimation & Installation Verification Checklist

Essential Checklist+

Complete these critical checks before approving the work or proceeding to the next construction stage.

βœ“31 Inspection Points
βœ“5 Verification Categories
βœ“Area Estimation & Sheet Calculation+
  • Roof area measured as sloped (rafter) area β€” not plan (horizontal projection) area
  • Roof pitch measured on site with a pitch gauge or digital inclinometer
  • Sheet effective cover width used β€” not the nominal sheet width
  • End lap (longitudinal overlap between sheets) included in length calculation
  • Wastage of 5–10% added to roofing sheet count
  • Complex roofs calculated section by section β€” hips, gables, dormers calculated separately
  • All roofing accessories listed β€” ridge caps, hip caps, valley flashing, verge trim, eaves trim, skylights
  • Fixing screws calculated β€” typically 8–12 screws per mΒ² depending on sheet type and wind zone
  • Purlin spacing confirmed from sheet manufacturer's load table β€” not assumed
βœ“Sheet Selection & Material+
  • Sheet material confirmed for the environment β€” galvanised, Zincalume, or colour-coated
  • Sheet thickness (BMT) confirmed β€” minimum 0.42mm BMT for residential; 0.47mm recommended
  • Sheet profile confirmed β€” corrugated, trapezoidal, or concealed fix β€” compatible with purlin spacing
  • Sheet lengths ordered to minimise end laps β€” single-length sheets preferred up to 12m
  • Ridge, hip, and valley accessories confirmed compatible with chosen sheet profile
βœ“Roof Structure Checks Before Installation+
  • All purlins at the same level β€” checked with string line or laser level
  • Purlin spacing uniform and within the sheet manufacturer's specified maximum
  • Roof structure confirmed square β€” diagonal measurements checked from ridge to eaves corners
  • Gutter brackets installed before first sheet row β€” eaves overhang into gutter confirmed
βœ“Sheet Installation & Fixing+
  • Sheet laying started from the correct end β€” against prevailing wind direction on side lap
  • First sheet positioned accurately β€” aligned square to eaves and gutter
  • Side lap consistent throughout β€” minimum one full corrugation for corrugated sheets
  • End laps sealed with foam closure strips or sealant tape
  • Fixings provided at every purlin including at ridge and eaves β€” no purlin spans skipped
  • Screws fixed at the crest of the corrugation β€” not in the valley
  • Screws tightened to correct torque β€” EPDM washer compressed but not over-crushed
  • Ridge capping installed with correct overlap and sealed at sides
  • All roof penetrations (pipes, vents, skylights, cables) correctly flashed
  • Gutters installed with correct fall β€” minimum 1:500 toward downpipe
βœ“Weatherproofing & Completion Checks+
  • Water test performed after completion β€” hose test from eaves to ridge looking for leaks
  • All fasteners inspected after water test β€” any loose or missing screws replaced
  • All metal swarf, offcuts, and drilling debris cleared from roof and gutters
