- Gate's finished leaf width and height measured on site, not assumed from a plan drawing alone
- Single vs. double leaf configuration confirmed against actual use (foot traffic, equipment, mower width)
- Swing clearance checked on both sides of the opening for the full arc of travel
βFrame Construction+-
- Wood Z-brace installed running from the BOTTOM hinge corner to the TOP latch corner, not the reverse
- Vinyl aluminum insert reinforcement fully seated inside each frame channel before assembly
βGate Post Setting+-
- Gate post size confirmed one nominal size up from the adjoining fence's own line post, per the selected material
- Gate posts set to the full planned depth and plumb, checked against the LOCAL FROST LINE where relevant
βHinge, Latch & Pool-Code Hardware+-
- If this gate encloses a pool: finished height confirmed at least 4 ft (48 in) β this calculator's normal 3 ft minimum does NOT apply once Pool Code Compliant is on
- If pool-code compliant: hinges/latch confirmed genuinely self-closing and self-latching, with the latch release either at least 54 in above grade, or (if lower) on the pool side at least 3 in below the top of the gate with no gap over 1/2 in within 18 in of the release

- Local fencing/gate-width ordinances checked before finalizing an unusually wide or tall gate
βFrame Construction+-
- Wood Z-brace installed running from the BOTTOM hinge corner to the TOP latch corner, not the reverse
- Vinyl aluminum insert reinforcement fully seated inside each frame channel before assembly
- Pre-fab aluminum gate panel inspected for shipping damage/racking before it's hung
- Chain-link tube frame corners properly fitted (welded or corner-fitting hardware) with fabric stretched taut, not just draped
- Fastener type and size confirmed against the frame material and the specific hinge/latch hardware kit's own instructions before assembly
- Frame checked square (equal diagonals) before infill (pickets, panel, or fabric) is attached
βGate Post Setting+-
- Gate post size confirmed one nominal size up from the adjoining fence's own line post, per the selected material
- Gate posts set to the full planned depth and plumb, checked against the LOCAL FROST LINE where relevant
- If concrete is used, posts braced level/plumb and given adequate cure time before hardware is hung
- Actual gate-post-to-gate-post spacing confirmed against the leaf width(s) plus hardware clearance, before setting the second post
βHinge, Latch & Pool-Code Hardware+-
- Hinge count confirmed against actual leaf width/weight, not just the calculator's default 2-per-leaf
- Double gate's drop rod and ground sleeve installed and confirmed to seat fully, locking the passive leaf before the active leaf is used
- If this gate encloses a pool: finished height confirmed at least 4 ft (48 in) β this calculator's normal 3 ft minimum does NOT apply once Pool Code Compliant is on
- If pool-code compliant: hinges/latch confirmed genuinely self-closing and self-latching, with the latch release either at least 54 in above grade, or (if lower) on the pool side at least 3 in below the top of the gate with no gap over 1/2 in within 18 in of the release
- Finished gate swung through its full arc and latch operated multiple times before calling the install complete
